Analysis Psychology of Elsa
on Movie Frozen by Walt Disney

Introduction
Movie is a kind of a modern literary work that
showing in visual form. Frozen is a American 3D movie by Walt Disney that
released on November 19, 2013. The movie tells the story of a fearless princess
who sets off on an epic journey along side a rugged iceman, his loyal pet
reindeer, and a naive snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers
have inadvertently trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.
Frozen is
interesting movie to watched, because the movie showing a moal message
and give a learning about true love. Elsa’s characterization can give a
learning about bravery to confront any problem in life. So researcher want to
analyze a psychology of Elsa. The researcher will analysis Elsa’s psychology
because in this movie Elsa’s characterization was changed.
The researcher use teory psychology of Sigmund Freud
to analysis this movie. Teory Psychoanalysis is a method for treating mental
illness and also a teory which explain human behavior. The goal of
psychoanalysis is to make the unconscious to be conscious.
Freud (1923) developed a more structural model of
the mind comprising the entities id, ego, superego.
a.
Id operated at
all unconscious level according to the pleasure principle (gratification from
satisfying basic instincts).
b.
Ego develops
from the id during infancy. The ego’s goal is to satisfy the demands of the id
in a safe a socially acceptable way.
c.
Superego develops
during early childhood and is responsible for ensuring moral standards are
followed. The superego operates on the morality principle and motivates us to behave
in a socially responsible and acceptable manner.

Analysis
In this movie
researcher will analysis psychology of Elsa according teory of Sigmund Freud.

Id
Elsa is a good and
cheerful girl, she always make her sister happy. Elsa very loved Ana and her
parents. Elsa growth in family that full with love so she become a nice girl.
It is showed when Elsa
followed Ana to playing snow to make Ana happy.

Ego
Elsa have a power to
make a frozen. She feel very sad when Elsa and Ana playing snow, Elsa’s might
hit Ana. Elsa was feel guilty and she confining herself because she don’t want
hurt anyone else.elsa don’t want to playing with Ana again. When Elsa touch
everything can change that to be frozen.

Superego
Elsa change all places
become frozen to save herself, because everyone think that Elsa is a monster.
Elsa make a frozen when she was angry. Elsa decided to leave the kingdom and
make a ice kingdom in another place that so far from her kingdom.
Elsa make snowman to
protect her kingdom. Elsa rejected to return to kingdom because she feel in ice
kingdom more save and comfort. Elsa make Ana to be frozen because Ana enforce
Elsa to return to the kingdom. Elsa very loved Ana so Elsa meet Ana to change
Ana to be a human. Ana become human again because true love between Ana and
Elsa,

Conclusion
According to teory of
Sigmund Freud, psychology of Elsa in Frozen is Elsa is good girl and cheerful
but when she has a power to make a frozen she was changed to be a loner girl
because she feel dufferent with other. It is make psychology Elsa was changed.
Elsa to be a bad girl to save herself. She changed all places become a frozen
because she was angry, everyone think that she was a monster. Elsa’s psychology
changed to be good when she Ana become a frozen and she want to change Ana to
be human again. True love between Ana and Elsa can broken Elsa’s might, so Ana
can change to be human. The teory of Sigmund Freud was appropriate with psychology of Elsa, because
in Elsa’s psychology be found id, ego, and superego elements.
