Film is kind of contemporary literature. Harry Potter is one example of contemporary film. Harry Potter is series film 1-7 produced by Warner Bross. The researcher uses Harry Potter titled “Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone” was released in the United Kingdom on November 16, 2001.

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone tells about Harry Potter study in Hogwarts school. Harry has a magic because his parents is a wizard. Harry leave with his uncle, Dursley because his parents was passed away. Voldemort have kill his parents. Harry accepted to study in Hogwarts, and he is very famous because he is a boy that cannot kill by Voldemort. In this film Voldemort want to stole the stone that can make he immortal. Voldemort wants to kill Harry because Harry is danger for him. Voldemort use Professor Quirrell to help him but Harry can lose them.

Contemporary literature is literature with its setting generally after world war II. Contemporary literature is difficult to characterize because it reflects contemporary life and culture, which is rapidly changing and full of contradictions. But there are certain trends which stand out. Contemporary literature is no longer innocent but ironic. It reflects our political, social, and personal disillusionment, and no longer dares to believe it can create anything new. It can only cast the old in new forms.

A drama or a play or a film is a piece of writing that is presented almost exclusively through dialogue. Like a short story or novel it has a setting, characrets, plot, and dialogue. However, the way in which presented to the audience is different, because unlike a short story or novel, the play is meant to be performed in front of an audience, not read.

The researcher wants to analysis this film because in this film tell about condition that different with real life in society. In Harry Potter showing human that unsual with another human in the world. Harry Potter has a magical power that in reality no one else has the magical power like Harry Potter. So the researcher choose the Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone to be analysis subject.

First, the researcher wants to analysis Harry Potter and The philosopher’s Stone according elements of drama.

·         Main character is Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a orphant, because his parents was passed away. He wearing a glasses and he is a handsome boy. Harry Potter is eleventh years old, he is a good boy, brave and friendly.

Harry Potter is protagonist because he make certain about the story in this film. He is dinamis character because in this film he changed from a baby became a boy. Harry Potter is a complex character because he has any problem in this film.

1.      Hermione Granger is a witch born to non magical parents. She is a beautiful, smart, and brave.

2.      Ronald Weasley is a boy from large, but poor, pure blood wizarding family. He is good boy and friendly. Harry’s best friend at Hogwarts.

·         Strains

When Harry Potter baby, he was leaved at Dursley house because Voldemort was killed Harry’s parents but his attack on Harry rebounded, leaving only a lightning bolt scar on Harry’s forehead and rendering Voldemort powerless.

·         Exposition

When Harry eleventh birthday, Harry learns from a mysterious stranger, Hagrid. Hagrid come to Harry to give him a letter from Hogwarts. The letter contain about invitation to Harry that he was accepted in Hogwart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry goes to Hogwarts, everyone was know about Harry Potter. He was famous at Hogwarts.

·         Conflict

Harry and Hagrid went to the bank and Hagrid take a something that Dumbledor ask. At Hogwarts Harry is a Gryffindor, someday Ron accept a letter and harry borrow this. Harry read a mail about “somebody broke into Gringotts. Believed to be the work of Dark Wizards or witches Gringotts goblin acknowledge the breach but insist nothing was taken the vault inquestion, number 713 had been emptied earlier that same day”. When dinner suddenly prof Quirrell tells to everyone that the trool was out from Dungeon. At the time Harry looks Snape’s leg was hurt, Harry guess that snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could get past that dog but snape got bit from dog which guarding something at Dugeon because Hagrid never tooks when Harry and Hagrid at Gringotts, Hagrid tooks something out of the vault very secret that’s what the dog’s guarding. Hagrid tells to Harry that dog protect something that only Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel was know.

·         Climax

Harry, hermione, and Ron looking for about Nicholas Flamel. When Christmas day Harry and Ron don’t return to the house and they are stay at Hogwarts. They decided to searching about Nicholas Flamel in the library, and Harry look Snape and Quirrell was talking. Hermione found about Nicholas Flamel, he is the only known maker of the Philosopher’s Stone. The Philosopher’s Stone is a legendary substance with astonishing powers. It will transform any mental into pure gold and produces the elixir of life which will make the drinker immortal. Harry, Ron, and Hermione went to Dungeon to find something that dog’s guarding. When Harry at Dugeon, he meet Quirrell in front of mirror. Quirrell tells to Harry about he want to kill Harry because Quirrell know that Harry a danger for Quirrell. In fact Quirrell is Voldemort, he wants to take the stone because Voldemort wants become immortal. Voldemort ask Harry to give the stone or Voldemort will kill Harry. Harry rejected to give the stone to Voldemort.

·         Resolution

Harry Potter can beat Voldemort, and Voldemort was death. Harry successed to save the stone and Dumbledor destroyed the stone. Gryffindor become a winner at Hogwarts.

The time in this film is afternoo, evening, and christmass.

The places in this film is at London, Hogwarts, Gringgott.

·         Situation

The situation in this film is tighten, dibble and fun.

1.      Hagrid, is a keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts, he is a big and tall like a giant. In reality no people like Hagrid that very big and tall who has a magical power.

2.      Goblin, is a banker at Hogwarts. They is a very little, has very tall nail and nose. In reality never founded banker like goblin and it is stranger because they not like a man but they can talk and work. Goblin is clever as they come but not the most friendly of beasts.

3.      Troll is a monster at Hogwarts. It is very big and spooky. In reality not exist a monster.

4.      Mc Gonagall, she can transform from a woman become a cat. In reality people can’t transform like Mc Gonaggall.

5.      Snape, he has two face, one of them is Voldemort face. Usually people only have a face.

b.      Setting

The places is at Hogwarts and Gringgott. In fact Hogwarts is not exist and never found a bank like in this film that the keeper is Goblin.

c.       Dialogue

Dialogue in this film is contemporary because dialogue that use is unsual to use people to talking.

·         Muggles is mean non magic falk.

·         It’s about you-know-what in vault you-know-which, it is mean philosopher’s stone.

·         He-who-must-not-be-named did great thing, it is mean Voldemort.

·         Oculus Reparo it is a magic formula.

·         Caput Draconus it is password to open the door at Gryffindor house.

·         Wingardium Leviosa it is a magic formula to make object fly.

·         Lacarnum Inflamarae it is a magic formula to burning something.

·         Quidditch it is mean a sport in the wizarding world where people fly on broomstick.

3.      Conclusion

According the analysis above Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone is one of kinds contemporary literature. This film showing something different with reality. The story not same with society life. The characters different with usual people in society. The film showing a magical power, but in fact people not have a magical power and people not a wizard. In reality broom, motorcycle cannot fly but i this film it is happen. People canot transform become a cat but in this film Mc Gonaggal can do it. Usually snake cannot talk but in this film snake can talking. So this film is a conemporary literature because it is different with reality
