Diverification Social class Character Noah and Allie
on film The Notebook by Avery Plx

1.      Introduction
The Notebook is a film by Avery Plx that published on 2004. The story begin on 1940 in New Bern North Carolina. This film tells about romance between Noah and Allie. They meet and they were falling in love, their love get many problem from Allie’s parents. Her parents do not like Noah. Allie’s parents don’t bless their relation because Noah is one of a lower class people.
The researcher wants to analysis the film because the film include a sociology aspect in America. It is classification social according class social that found in America. In this film showed a clasification social between high class people and lower class people in America.  Allie’s parents don’t want Allie has a fried from lower class because Allie is a high class. it is showed that in America there are class social.
Classification social is a explained that level of man according economic statue in their area. In America has classification social, there are high class, middle class, and lower class. in film The Notebook researcher found classification social between Allie and Noah so their love have many problem because Noah is a lower class and Allie is a high class.
The American class system is typically broadly divided into three main layers: upper class, middle class, and lower class. They are mostly based on socioeconomic conditions. Although definitions and membership criteria aren't concrete, these three classes offer a general understanding of what social stratification looks like in the U.S.
a.     Upper class are the owners of the means of production and most of the country's private wealth. Many are important government officials, large business owners, or top executives that have a great deal of income and/or wealth.
b.     Middle class is the average-middle, and the family income at this level is roughly the national average. Members typically work at less prestigious white-collar jobs - managers, teachers, office workers, and so on.
c.      Lower class was includes those who lack money and/or the means to meet basic need. They have low-prestige jobs and extremely low income.

2.      Theory
Film theory or cinema studies is an academic discipline that aims to explore the essence of the cinema and provides conceptual frameworks for understanding film’s relationship to reality, the other arts, individual viewers, and society at large.

According theory of Sudjiman (1988:16) character is a individual fiction that be found in the story and have action in every event. Characterization is logical quality and soul of character that make it different with other chracter in the story.

According theory of Peter Beger, social classes is a type of stratification in which one’s general position in society is basically determined by economic chriteria. Concept of social classes related to position of people in society if higher the economic so higher the level.

3.      Problem
a.       How character and characterization Allie and Noah in this film?
b.      How diverification social classes have showed?
c.       What the effect from the social classes?




4.      Analysis
a.       Character and characterization
·         Allie Hamilton, is a main characters because she always be founded in the story. She is complect character because she has a problem and dinamic because she was changed from young until old. She is the heirs of Hamilton. She is 17th years old, beautiful and smart girl, blonde hair. She is a nice and obedient girl. She always do anything that her parents want. She also contra with her parents because she love Noah and her parents don’t blest it.
“ I haven’t seen a movie. Not since I was a little kid. I’m busy, you know I don’t have a lot of time. I have a very strict schedule. My days are all planned out. I get up in the morning, breakfast, math tutor, Latin tutor, lunch, tennis lesson, dance lessons, sometimes both, French tutor, piano lesson, then I eat dinner, and after dinner I spend tie with my family. And then I catch up on some reading.”
“you’re not going to tell me who I’am gonna love. Yes Daddy, I love him. I love him. You don’t look at daddy, the way I look at Noah you don’t touch or laugh. You don’t play. You don’t know anything about love.”

·         Noah Calhoun, is a complect characters because he has a problem in the story. He is a dinamic character because he was changed. He is a handsome, tall, brave and smart. He is a romantic man. He work as a wood cutter.
“I would really like to take you out. Now will you go out with me?. I’m gonna ask you one more time or will you not go out with me?. Not, until she agree.”
Allie: “yes I will go with you. You think you’re so smart, dont you?”


b.      Social class in this film showed by the action of Anne Hamilton, Allie mother. She don’t like Noah because he is a poor people. Anne said that Noah is a trash and not good for Allie.
Anne :“you are going to stop seeing Noah. He is trash, trash, trash... not for you. Now that is enough, you are not to see him anymore. And that’s final.”
Hamilton: “he’s not suitable for you baby.”

c.       Effect of social class in this film is raise a new problem. The problem is make Noah and Allie separated because Allie’s parent dont bless their love. Allie to be a battle with her parents to defend her love. Social class make a spaces between high class, middle and lower class.

5.      Conclusion
From this film researcher can be found diverification social class in America. There are high class, middle class, and lower class. Noah is a wood cutter and Allie is a student that will be the heirs of Hamilton. It is showed that Noah is a lower class and Allie ia s high class so Allie’s parent don’t like Noah. Social class raise effects, there are make Allie change to be contra with her parents, make she separated with Noah, raise a spaces between high, middle and lower class.
